About Us

Data Synchrony is a female-led team based in Washington D.C., U.S.A. Our mission is to promote sustainable, evidence-based decision-making.  

We do this through participatory development of systems, tools and processes that generate insights, facilitate strategic decision-making, and promote institutional learning. Data Synchrony’s co-founders, Dr. Jennifer Himmelstein and Elena Paredes each have over 15 years of experience working on the design and implementation of data collection systems, data analytics, as well as research and evaluation. We have led and overseen the development of institutional and project-based business intelligence systems, as well as large- and lean- targeted assessments to inform programmatic and organizational strategy. We are leaders in strategic planning, systems-change measurement, and participatory- evaluation, and change management. Our team possess skills in both qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, visualization, and utilization. We have experience with a wide-range of methodologies, including but not limited to outcome harvest, outcome mapping, the Most Significant Change method, and social network analysis. Our experts have overseen and directly implemented numerous learning for strategic and results-based initiatives, possessing a unique understanding of how to collaboratively generate products that clients want and can utilize.  

Topical areas of expertise include but are not limited to food systems, primary and higher education, market-systems, democracy and governance, diplomacy, agriculture,  and nature-based solutions.

AREAS OF WORK

Collaborative Mapping & Building of Enterprise Data Systems 

Our team has coordinated with technical experts and leaders in identifying programmatic metrics and key performance indicators necessary for improved decision-making and increased results. We work with these stakeholders in developing sustainable data collection processes, tools and systems for data storage and visualization. 

Capacity Strengthening in Data Systems & Processes 

Our experts have trained organizational, project, external consulting firms, and foreign government experts in data collection and research design skills and best practices. This includes but is not limited to sample size calculations, data collection form design, database development and maintenance, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis best practices and systems change measurement methods (ex. social network analysis, outcome harvest, Most Significant Change, etc.). Our team also has experience building capacity in the design and maintenance of data systems.

Evaluation, Strategic Planning, & Change Management 

Data Synchrony’s staff have a breadth of experience in implementing, overseeing and collaborating on differential topical assessments for the purpose of generating insights around impact and best ways forward. These range from lean data collection assessments utilizing interactive voice messaging, SMS, and targeted focus group discussions to large scale surveys (>2000 participants, covering >half a countries geographic area).
